Sample Projects

In 2011 and 2012, I enjoyed the honor of participating with leadership at Moody Distance Learning to build a faculty training and mentoring program. We worked for several months to document the process and build training modules. The result was a business plan for the development of a training and mentoring program including a financial anaylsis of the impact if we achieved 20% increased retention through training faculty. We knew that this was an ambitious goal and that there were many factors to retention that we would not be able to control or measure, yet we pressed on.
 
In August 2012, the MDL Faculty Training Course was launched as an 8-week immersion course in Blackboard. With specific intent toward providing participants with a simulated student experience including quizzes, writing assignments and rubric development and application, new instructors were steeped in the student experience while also learning new technologies and experiencing the timing and pace of an 8-week course. A literature review including data from Sloan-C student survey guided us toward a priority on student engagement. The feedback from the instructors has been positive as they express gratitude for both orientation type materials and the ability to experience life as a student.
